KHAYELITSHA- COOL THINGS TO DO
Cape Town’s largest township, Khayelitsha- is consumed by shanty dwellings which shelter more than half the city’s unemployed. The township is plagued with crime, poverty, H.I.V and A.I.D.S
But not all is bleak in Khayelistha-actually there are a lot of cool and interesting things to do there. Here’s a list of five-
THE LOOK-OUT HILL
Look out hill is one of the highest hills in the area, offering spectacular panoramic views of the township below and Table Mountain in a distance. In close vicinity, is a craft market, a science center and a restaurant.
CRAFT MARKET
Visit the local craft market, a great place to buy souvenirs straight from the local people. Refreshments and traditional meals such as iskopo (sheep’s head) are available for purchase.
MONWABISI BEACH
Go swimming with the locals at Monwabisi beach. Monwabisi is a Xhosa word meaning “bring joy”, to which many Monwabisi beach goers will attest. The beach features the largest tidal man made swimming pool in the southern hemisphere. Monwabisi also has a coastal resort, catering exclusively for the residents of Khayelitsha and neighboring townships.
WOLFGAT NATURE RESERVE
This is the largest nature reserve near the Cape flats area ,where porcupines and Grysbok are usually spotted.
ITALIAN HOUSE TAVERN
Savor the sounds of South Africa whilst drinking local beer at the Italian tavern .
